Articling Program |

Law students who have completed Second (2nd) and Third (3rd) Year Law School are invited to apply to article with the Department of Justice, Government of Newfoundland and Labrador. Positions commencing in the Spring of 2009 are available in the Civil Division and the Public Prosecutions Division. Positions are in St. John’s, with the exception of one Public Prosecutions Division position in Corner Brook. The Civil Division and the Pubic Prosecutions Division work together to offer a comprehensive Articling Program. The Program gives articling students the opportunity to develop the essential knowledge, skills and experience to practice law. Throughout the Program, students receive professional guidance and support from experienced lawyers and enjoy a wide array of challenging legal work, in an exciting work environment. Ideally, students hired for one division will complete a rotation in the other division and a month with a private law firm to ensure exposure to all areas of law. Within the Civil Division, students will rotate through the Division’s five units (Central Agencies and Justice Policy, Litigation, Family Law, Resources/Regulatory and Corporate Commercial). The Department of Justice is headquartered at Confederation Building, St. John’s. The Civil Division and the Public Prosecutions Division operate from headquarters. The Public Prosecutions Division has eight regional offices and a Special Prosecutions Unit; the St. John’s regional office and the Special Prosecutions Unit are located at Atlantic Place, Water Street, St. John’s. Students must be eligible for admission to the Law Society of Newfoundland and Labrador as students at law and satisfy Department of Justice hiring requirements.
