Access and Privacy Course for Newfoundland and Labrador Government Employees

This course provides an overview of access and privacy laws and principles that apply to the Newfoundland and Labrador government. Upon completion of the course you will have a better understanding of:

  • how privacy is an issue of importance to us all;
  • the law that applies to the government;
    • The Access to Information and Protection of Privacy Act;
  • the obligations of employees within government, along with simple steps we can all take to protect the records we handle; and
  • the rights of individuals to access records in the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador.

Exercises containing scenarios are included, to stimulate thinking and increase awareness about access and privacy concepts and the roles and responsibilities of public sector organizations and their employees in protecting personal information.

Time Required: This course should take between 1 to 2 hours to complete.
