A letter must be written to the Deputy Minister of Justice stating place of employment and occupation. If the applicant is from outside the legal profession, they must submit their reason for wanting to become a Notary Public. A Statutory Affidavit must be attached to correspondence stating name, place of birth, confirmation of Canadian citizenship and current residence. This affidavit must be signed and witnessed by a Notary Public or Commissioner For Oaths.
There is a fee of $500.00 (cheque or money order) that must be made payable to the Newfoundland and Labrador Exchequer.
A Notary Public is appointed for life.
