The jurisdiction of Supreme Court of Newfoundland and Labrador (Trial Division) includes:

• Criminal:
  unlimited jurisdiction in all criminal matters bestowed upon it by the Criminal Code and relevant statutes;

• Civil:
  jurisdiction over all civil actions. However, cases involving financial disputes are generally above the small claims limit of $5000;
  
  
• Family:
  jurisdiction over nullity, judicial separation, corollary relief, divorce, matrimonial property, custody, access, guardianship and interspousal Criminal Code offences, except in St. John's and parts of the Avalon and Bonavista Peninsulas where these matters fall under the jurisdiction of the Unified Family Court; and
  
  
• Appeals:
  the Court hears criminal appeals from summary convictions in Provincial Court and civil appeals from Provincial Court (Family Division) and (Small Claims Division).
